This Rocks - dump your bose to get this for 1/3 rd price January 6, 2009 Finally Found (New Jersey) Excellent product. Great value for the money. For basement home theatres, this will just do fine dont need any expensive stuff. The IPOD dock is great and you can control the IPOD with this remote (although a bit more control would have been better - right now you can play music and forward, stop, etc). Also, you can program this remote to control your other equipment (TV / DVD / CBL). Unfortunately cannot program to control the playstation blue ray player.
Pop-in a Blue Ray and enjoy.
Few things you might want - Banana plugs for hooking up the wires - Pre wired rooms will eliminate all the wires hanging out
Overall exceptional product... With all the HDMI connections, it makes it easy to hook up - get HDMI cables for about 3 bucks from Amazon as well - dont pay $15 or so - they are all the same (you ought to be a genius if you can tell the diff blind fold)
Snail-paced delivery January 5, 2009 Anna (Dallas, TX) 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
I ordered this more than a week ago and has not arrived yet. Granted that there were holidays in between, it is still inexcusable. I could have gotten it from another site free of shipping and within three days. I will think twice about ordering from Amazon again.
Impressive January 3, 2009 R. HORNE Easy to setup. Sounds good no matter how you configure your speakers. I tried it in 2.1, 5.1, and 7.1. All configurations sounds very lovely.
Pros: best bang for your buck, great for small rooms, simple easy setup, more features than you'll probably ever use.
Cons: receiver generates a lot of heat, speakers seem pretty cheap, speakers don't sound that good in large rooms (sounds great in my 15x25 office vs. sounds horrible in my 2 story loft sitting room), remote isn't very appealing (get a universal and setup some macros)
Quick setup and awesome sound! January 3, 2009 T. Campbell (Orlando, FL) I bought this home theater system after a ton of research. It comes with the Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver which is one the best receivers out there under $1,000. It has 4 HDMI (1.3) inputs which I have an Xbox 360, Panasonic DMP-BD35K Blu-Ray player and a HD DVR Cable box hooked up to. My HDTV is a Samsung 52" LCD 1080p 120 Hz (LN52A630) and I must tell you that the video and sound is incredible! I just watched The Dark Knight and I was truly amazed.
Alot of people complained about the small gauge speaker wire. It's true - it is 18, maybe even 20, gauge. If you are a true audiophile you'll probably invest in some heavier gauge wire anyways. I ran mine w/ the factory supplied wire and I'm happy.
Setup was easy. Use the supplied Audyssey 2EQ to automatically setup your speakers as it makes a ton of difference. It decodes Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio as well, which is a plus if your current Blu-ray player doesn't have that feature (the Panasonic DMP-BD35K does). In addition, nothing is like playing 'Gears of War 2' or 'NCAA Football 2009' on the Xobx 360 with this system. The sound and video is unreal!
Finally, I read a lot of stuff out there about HDMI cables. To throw my two cents into the mix, I bought some cheap $29 Belkin HDMI cables from Target and also bought the 12 bit color, 1000 mpbs, super hi-def $135 HDMI Monster Cables from Circuit City. I must tell you that the expensive HDMI cables had a better picture and sound. The picture was more crisp and fluid and the sound was more intense. Think about it like this: You'll buy them once and that's it (the Monster Cables have a lifetime warranty). Plus, you can buy the expensive cables and brag to your friends about how much they were!
Best for the price. December 30, 2008 M. Rector (Yamhill, OR.) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
You can't find a better system for the price. Easy to set up, but like everyone else says, the speaker wire provided is cheap. I bought 14 gauge wire and the sound is awsome. Auto-setup mic optimizes the system to perfection. I use this system with my Samsung 46" HD LCD and HDMI cables for one of the best home theater combos for the price you can find. You can get better systems, but the increase in performance compared to the increase in cost will not add up.
